Sunday 5 May sees the BGY Airport Granfondo: traffic changes

In order to allow operations to run smoothly and at the same time keep traffic changes to a minimum, the Prefecture of Bergamo has issued an order to close the event’s roads to traffic.

Just a few days to go before the BGY Airport Granfondo, the amateur cycling event scheduled for Sunday, 5 May 2024, which will be held in Bergamo under the aegis of the Italian Cycling Federation.

THE THREE ROUTES

The BGY Airport Granfondo this year confirms the three traditional routes. Participants will also be able to decide during the race whether to opt for the short, medium or long route. The three routes are suitable for all types of cyclists and different levels of preparation: they range from the short course of 89.4 km (1,400 m altitude difference), through the medium course of 128.8 km (2,100 m altitude difference), to the long course of 162.1 km (3,050 m altitude difference). There are 6 valleys crossed (Val Cavallina, Valseriana, Val Serina, Val Brembana, Val Taleggio, Valle Imagna) and no less than 37 municipalities.

ROAD INFO

On Sunday 5 May, the BGY Airport Granfondo will affect several towns in the Bergamo area. In order to allow the regular development of the operations and at the same time limit the changes to the road network to a minimum, the Prefecture of Bergamo has issued an ordinance to close the roads of the municipalities affected by the three routes of the event to traffic.

In particular, the suspension of traffic was ordered for 90 minutes in both directions on each of the three routes from the passage of the first cyclist. Once the ‘end of the race’ has passed, traffic will be partially reopened on each route to allow the other riders to race in safe conditions, under the vigilance of the police forces.

The company’s new headquarters will open its doors to the thousands of cyclists and fans who will reach the city of Bergamo for the event. With a large and comfortable indoor and outdoor area and pleasant green spaces that will welcome the Expo Village with the exhibition stands of the Granfondo’s partners, it will be an eve day to be lived intensely. The area will be open to the public and participants on Saturday 4 May from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. There will also be entertainment and refreshment areas for guests and the public. On Sunday 5 May, it will then be the traditional Lazzaretto di Bergamo area, near the start and finish line in Via Marzabotto, that will once again be coloured and light up the BGY Airport Granfondo 2024 party.
