BGY Airport Granfondo Embraces Sustainable Mobility Thanks to the Support of Its Partners
The organizers of the prestigious international Granfondo in Bergamo reaffirm their strong commitment to environmental responsibility, supported by valuable partnerships.
The BGY Airport Granfondo, together with its partners, continues to pay close attention to environmental sustainability. The cycling event, set to energize the roads of Bergamo city and province on Sunday, May 4, 2025, also stands out for its green efforts.
Thanks to the renewed collaboration with Uniacque and Sarco Toyota, two companies deeply rooted in the Bergamo area, the use of plastic and fuel during the event will be significantly reduced, while sustainable habits will be promoted among participants and staff.
These values are also shared by the new Mobility Partner, ATB – Azienda Trasporti Bergamo, a forward-looking urban mobility company known for its efficiency and innovation. Over the past few months, ATB has also promoted an important message about urban mobility safety and awareness with the slogan “Pedala e lascia… pedalare” (Ride and let… ride), featured on a city bus.
This initiative continues the Granfondo’s long-standing commitment to promoting soft mobility. Along the race route, EcoZones will be set up at each refreshment station—dedicated areas for waste collection, from water bottles to snack wrappers, clearly marked with appropriate signage.
The use of drinkable tap water will also be encouraged in order to reduce the amount of plastic bottles and the fuel needed to transport them. Through the event’s partnership with Uniacque’s “Acqua Eco Sport” project and the Water Alliance Group, as many as 18 pallets of bottled water will be saved from being used and transported.
Launched in 2017, this project is centered around three core values: care, attention, and respect—for water as a vital and precious resource, for human health and well-being, and for the health of the environment to ensure a sustainable future. It aims to promote and support sports initiatives that align with environmental sustainability.
Another key initiative, carried out with Sarco Toyota, will see electric vehicles once again following the race to provide support and ensure smooth operations throughout the event.
The BGY Airport Granfondo has also created a dedicated “Green Event” section on its official website, www.granfondobgy.it, where users can find a set of eco-friendly practices to apply not only during the event but also in their daily lives – from reducing paper usage to making conscious food and beverage choices by preferring local and seasonal products.
