Spring Awakens the Cycling Spirit: BGY Airport Granfondo 2025 Confirms Its Three Routes

The international amateur cycling event confirms its three routes again this year: a short route of 89.4 km (1,400 m of elevation gain), a medium route of 128.8 km (2,100 m of elevation gain), and a long route of 162.1 km (3,050 m of elevation gain).

As spring arrives, temperatures rise, days grow longer, and the desire to cycle becomes stronger. The BGY Airport Granfondo is drawing closer, reaffirming itself as an unmissable event for cycling enthusiasts.

Scheduled for Sunday, May 4, 2025, in Bergamo, under the auspices of the Italian Cycling Federation, the international amateur cycling event will once again feature its three traditional routes.

Following a lively pre-race day filled with race packet distribution and the Expo Village hosted at the Santini Cycling headquarters, the event will officially kick off from Via Marzabotto, in the heart of Bergamo. Participants will have the unique opportunity to choose their preferred route even during the ride—opting for the short, medium, or long course—each offering an exciting and scenic journey through the stunning landscapes of the Orobic region.

The three routes cater to cyclists of all levels, featuring varying distances and elevations:

  • Short Route: 89.4 km with 1,400 meters of elevation gain
  • Medium Route: 128.8 km with 2,100 meters of elevation gain
  • Long Route: 162.1 km with 3,050 meters of elevation gain

Riders will traverse six picturesque valleys (Val Cavallina, Valseriana, Val Serina, Val Brembana, Val Taleggio, and Valle Imagna) and pass through 37 municipalities. Starting from Bergamo, the course winds through Gorle, Scanzorosciate, Cenate Sotto, Cenate Sopra, Trescore Balneario, Entratico, Luzzana, Borgo di Terzo, Vigano San Martino, Casazza, Gaverina Terme, Albino, Nembro, Selvino, Rigosa di Algua, Costa di Serina, Bracca, Zogno, San Pellegrino Terme, San Giovanni Bianco, Taleggio, Vedeseta, Val Brembilla, Sedrina, Berbenno, San Omobono Terme, Costa Valle Imagna, Roncola, Bedulita, Capizzone, Strozza, Almenno San Salvatore, Villa d’Almè, Almè, Sorisole, Ponteranica, and finally returning to Bergamo.

All participants will ride together until kilometer 71, near Ambria. After conquering the legendary Selvino climb, the short course diverts towards the finish, while the medium and long routes continue towards Costa d’Olda and Forcella di Bura. Upon descending to Brembilla (km 111), the medium route heads toward the finish line, while the most daring riders tackling the long route will face two more challenging ascents: first to Forcella di Berbenno, then to Costa Valle Imagna, before a final thrilling descent back to Bergamo’s finish line.

In total, riders will face approximately 23 km of climbing on the short route, 33 km on the medium, and nearly 49 km on the long course. The event also includes a dedicated GIM category, open to all types of bicycles—road, gravel, MTB, both muscle-powered and electric. For this category, only the short distance will be available, with a dedicated starting grid. Along the course, five refreshment points will be set up, in addition to the finish-line refreshment area and the post-race pasta party included in the registration.
